At VARTA, we not only ensure sustainability through the energy-efficient use of renewable energies with our energy storage systems. The concept of sustainability is firmly anchored in all our actions. At VARTA, this begins with our production and extends to the environmentally friendly disposal and recycling of our batteries.
We are fully committed to renewable energies and CO2 reduction
93 % of our electricity requirements and 71 % of the total energy consumed at our production sites comes from renewable energy sources.
Our goal: 100 % renewable electricity for all sites.
Sustainable supply chains, environmentally friendly packaging and recycling programmes
On average, we procure 51 % of our materials locally, and up to 90 % of our VARTA Storage energy storage systems come from Germany.
We focus on resource-conserving production and recyclable materials: over 50 % of our batteries are taken back, broken down into their components and recycled.
We have not only focussed on sustainable packaging solutions for our energy storage systems: 35 % of plastic consumption was reduced by VARTA Consumer Batteries in 2023 through the use of new cardboard packaging.
But we are not satisfied with that
We participate in 42 international, publicly funded research projects for the further development of sustainable technologies.
